The 2022 Star South American Championship, organized by the Yacht Club Argentino at the Dársena Norte, in Buenos Aires, ended today in a truly festive and competitive atmosphere for the 25-boat fleet and the 50 sailors who came here from around the world. Two races were sailed on the last day, thus completing the seven scheduled for the Championship. The sun and a north-westerly breeze of 15 knots with gusts to 20 towards the end, made this last day memorable for everyone.

The day started out with a joyful spirit, after the win of Argentina yesterday at the quarter final of the Football World Cup in Qatar, not so for the three Brazilians teams and the Dutch one there. Nevertheless, everyone was on the starting line at 1 pm, with a nice 15 knots Southeasterly breeze, a happy change to the light wind of the previous two days. The only tricky bit was the strong current against the wind, that complicated the starting procedures, with a couple of general recalls.
Read Full ArticleOnly one race could be sailed today in Buenos Aires at the Yacht Club Argentino, Dársena Norte, for the 2022 Star South American Championship, with the start brought one hour forward due to a very light wind forecast. It was a very complicated day, extreme heat and a light breeze from the North, against the current, that stayed just under six knots.
Race three of the Championship started around 11am, and the best to interpret the very tricky conditions were Marcelo Fuchs and Arthur Lopes (BRA), with this bullet, they close the day in second place overall. Second in the only race of the day another Brazilian team, Mario Sergio de Jesus Jr and Pedro Trouche, fourth in the general ranking. Leandro and Lucas Altolaguirre, from Buenos Aires, confirmed yesterday’s leading position with a third place in today’s regatta. Third overall now are Fabian Mac Gowan and Mauricio Bueno (ARG), who had a bad day (14) after two very good races yesterday.
The 2022 Star South American Championship has started today and it will end on Sunday December 11th in Buenos Aires, Argentina, organized by the Yacht Club Argentino at the Dársena Norte with the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association.
The South American Star Championship has been held since 1952. In Buenos Aires, the South Americans were held in 2019, before the pandemic and the title went to the duo Tomas Hornos (USA) and Pedro Trouche (BRA). There is no shortage of big names of the sailing world also this year, like the two Star World Champion crews Frithjof Kleen (GER) and Samuel Gonçalves (BRA), and the Brazilians Marcelo Fuchs runner-up World Champion in 2015 and Arthur Lopes, South American champion.
Registration is now open for the 2022 South American Championship to be sailed in Buenos Aires.
