LEANDRO AND LUCAS ALTOLAGUIRRE WIN THE 2022 STAR SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN THEIR HOME COUNTRY, ARGENTINA

The 2022 Star South American Championship, organized by the Yacht Club Argentino at the Dársena Norte, in Buenos Aires, ended today in a truly festive and competitive atmosphere for the 25-boat fleet and the 50 sailors who came here from around the world. Two races were sailed on the last day, thus completing the seven scheduled for the Championship. The sun and a north-westerly breeze of 15 knots with gusts to 20 towards the end, made this last day memorable for everyone.

FIRST WINDY DAY IN BUENOS AIRES FOR THE 2022 STAR SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

It was finally a windy day in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the Yacht Club Argentino at the Dársena Norte is organizing the 2022 Star South American Championship with 25 teams fighting to win the silver star continental event of the year. The day started out with a joyful spirit, after the win of Argentina yesterday at the quarter final of the Football World Cup in Qatar, not so for the three Brazilians teams and the Dutch one there. Nevertheless, everyone was on the starting line at 1 pm, with a nice 15 knots Southeasterly breeze, a happy change to the light wind of the previous two days. The only tricky bit was the strong current against the wind, that complicated the starting procedures, with a couple of general recalls.

LIGHT WIND IN BUENOS AIRES ALLOWS ONE RACE ONLY AT THE 2022 STAR SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Only one race could be sailed today in Buenos Aires at the Yacht Club Argentino, Dársena Norte, for the 2022 Star South American Championship, with the start brought one hour forward due to a very light wind forecast. It was a very complicated day, extreme heat and a light breeze from the North, against the current, that stayed just under six knots.

Race three of the Championship started around 11am, and the best to interpret the very tricky conditions were Marcelo Fuchs and Arthur Lopes (BRA), with this bullet, they close the day in second place overall. Second in the only race of the day another Brazilian team, Mario Sergio de Jesus Jr and Pedro Trouche, fourth in the general ranking. Leandro and Lucas Altolaguirre, from Buenos Aires, confirmed yesterday’s leading position with a third place in today’s regatta. Third overall now are Fabian Mac Gowan and Mauricio Bueno (ARG), who had a bad day (14) after two very good races yesterday.
