SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2019

25 teams will start racing tomorrow at the South American Championship 2019 hosted in Buenos Aires by the Club Nautico Olivos. Seven flags are waving at the yacht club entrance, representing Germany, Argentina, Brasil, Chile, United States, Italy and Uruguay with their great sailors gathered here to claim the South American Silver Star and follow nothing less than five time Olympic medalist Robert Scheidt, who won it last year in Rio de Janeiro with Henry Boening.

ROBERT SCHEIDT AND ARTHUR LOPES WIN THE 49TH STAR SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN RIO DE JANEIRO

Robert Scheidt and Arthur Lopes (BRA) are the 2018 South American champions of the Star class. The two-time Olympic champion won the first race on Sunday, last day of the event, at the Yacht Club in Rio de Janeiro, and finished second in the last, giving him the Championship. However, the duo Lars Grael / Samuel Gonçalves (BRA) obtained the same results on the last day of the competition, but reversed, andfinished at equal points. The title was decided only on the third tiebreaker. They were equal in number of victories (two) and second places (one). The third position obtained on Saturday gave the cup to Scheidt / Lopes. It was quite thrilling!!

At the Star South American Championship 2018 the regatta ended with an all-Brazilians podium, paying respect to  Rio de Janeiro and the Iate Club that hosted the event.
