Welcome to Buenos Aires – South American Championship 2026

Posted July 04, 2026

Dear Star Sailors, Families and Friends,

On behalf of District 18 of the Star Class and the Yacht Club Argentino, it is our great pleasure to invite you to the 2026 Star Class South American Championship, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in December 2026.

For us, hosting this championship is both an honor and a privilege. We are committed to organizing an event that reflects the traditions, camaraderie and competitive spirit that have always defined the Star Class.

Buenos Aires is one of South America’s most vibrant and welcoming cities. It offers a unique combination of history, culture, world-renowned gastronomy, beautiful parks, exciting nightlife and countless attractions for competitors and their families. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning once again, we are confident you will enjoy everything our city has to offer.

The racing venue is equally special. The Río de la Plata provides an exceptional setting for Star Class racing, with wide open waters, fair racecourses and challenging yet enjoyable sailing conditions. December marks the beginning of the Argentine summer, bringing long daylight hours, pleasant temperatures typically ranging from 22°C to 30°C (72°F to 86°F), and generally reliable winds. Competitors can expect predominantly northeast and east winds, frequently between 10 and 18 knots, with occasional stronger afternoon breezes and the possibility of classic southerly changes that make racing on the Río de la Plata both tactical and exciting.

We extend a particularly warm invitation to sailors from every Star fleet around the world. We sincerely hope that teams from across South America, North America, Europe and beyond will join us for this special championship.

District 18 and the organizing committee are fully committed to helping international competitors in every possible way. Whether you need assistance with  boats, storage, local transportation, accommodations or any other logistical arrangements, our team will be available to support you throughout the entire process. Our goal is simple: to make your trip to Argentina as easy and enjoyable as possible, allowing you to focus on what truly matters—racing and enjoying the unique spirit of the Star Class.

Beyond the competition, we look forward to sharing Argentine hospitality with all of you. We hope you will enjoy our traditions, our famous cuisine, our renowned Argentine barbecue, and the friendships that have always made the Star Class much more than just a sailing competition.

We invite you to come and experience outstanding racing, unforgettable social events, and the warmth of Buenos Aires.

We look forward to welcoming you to Argentina in December 2026.

Fair winds, and see you on the starting line!
